From Emu Bomb
First up, i'll explain the two main parts of playing the games on our site:
A ROM is the game data. For instance, Super Mario. You can think of this as like the game cd that goes to a playstation.
The EMULATOR reads the rom and displays the game on your screen, as well as allowing you to hit controls from your keyboard. You can think of the emulator as the Playstation console that you put the game cd into.
To find a game you want to play,
First, decide the game you would like to play. Or just browse our Rom section until you find one you would like to play. The most popular roms are those for the Nintendo 64 and Gameboy Advance.
Once you have downloaded the rom, unzip it with a program like 7-Zip. Unzipping will decompress the file and create a new directory with the rom inside.
Next, goto our emulator section and download an emulator that is the same system as the rom you just downloaded. Some of the better emulators for each system are available here
You may need to decompress or install the emulator. Now open the main emulator file, Goto the File Menu and select either "Open" or "Load Rom" - it varies depending on the emulator.
Now the game should load. You will need to figure out the controls through trial and error, or look at them in a controls menu.. Again, these vary from emulator to emulator.
If you need any help, don't be afraid to stop by our forums and ask a question.
To sum up:
- Find the rom (game file)
- Find a matching emulator (game player)
- Unzip both the rom and emulator
- Open the emulator, Find the "load rom" part, and load the rom file.
- Figure out the controls yourself or look in a help menu
