[edit] What you need

• R4DS or M3 Simply or clone (incl. CycloDS, DSTT and others)
• Computer with USB port
• MicroSD card

(at the time of writing, both the R4 and M3 came with a USB microSD card reader/writer. If they no longer do, you will need one of those too)

[edit] Firmware Installation

First, you need to download the latest firmware for your chip, get that at the sites below:

• R4 Firmware
• M3 Simply Firmware (In the 'Console Software' bit)
• DSTT Firmware (Scroll down to 'Kernal Download')

Once you have the firmware file, you need to decompress it.

Now, copy all of the files to the root (i.e. H:\) of your microSD card.

So you don't get confused, it is recommended that you create the following folders to store your files:

• Games
• Music
• Video
• Notes

Goto DS Downloads and click on the Roms link.

Find a game you want, click it's name and enter the security code to download it. Once it has downloaded, you will need to decompress it, then move the resulting .nds file into the Games folder of your microSD card.

[edit] Play games

Remove the microSD card from the reader, and carefully insert it into the slot in your R4 or M3 gamecard. Ensure you have it the right way up - so that the metal contacts on the microSD face the top of the gamecard. Now insert your R4 or M3 gamecard into your Nintendo DS as you would any normal game - with the top facing the bottom of the DS.

• Turn on your DS
• Touch the Games icon, or use the A button to select it.
• In the top screen use the D-Pad and buttons to select the Games folder
• Scroll to the game you want to play, press A
• If you are asked if you want to create a save file, select Yes

The game should now load. Some newer games will not load, but the next time you upgrade your firmware, the games will work.
